We can only know God through His revelation of Himself in the Bible, a book written by men who were inspired by the power of God. God reveals himself as the Supreme Being; who has always existed; who is immortal; who is all powerful, full of wisdom and understanding.
To the King of the ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honour and glory forever and ever. Amen.
1 Timothy 1:17
The Bible is very clear that God created the heavens and the earth and that He is the giver of life to all that lives. Not only is He the creator, but He also maintains all life. Everything that was created is kept in being by His power – His spirit. He is everywhere present by His spirit.
The Bible opens with words which are crystal clear.
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.
Genesis 1:1
In the New Testament, Paul refers to God in a speech he gave recorded in Acts chapter 17. It confirms God as the creator and maintainer and also tells us more about His plan that men and women should seek Him and find out even more of that plan.
The God who made the world and everything in it, being Lord of heaven and earth, does not live in temples made by man, nor is he served by human hands, as though he needed anything, since he himself gives to all mankind life and breath and everything. And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place, that they should seek God, and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him. Yet he is actually not far from each one of us, for “‘In him we live and move and have our being’; as even some of your own poets have said, “‘For we are indeed his offspring.’
Acts 17:24-28
There are plenty more details about God’s plan in the other basic bible principles subjects on this website. If you wish to read more about God as the creator and maintainer, have a look of Psalm 103, especially verses 8 to 13, and Psalm 104.
